TOP 10 HAUNTED PLACES IN RAJASTHAN

Rajasthan is a northern Indian state bordering Pakistan. Its palaces and forts are reminders of the many kingdoms that historically vied for the region. Following is a list of top 10 Haunted places in Rajasthan.

1. Kuldhara village, near Jaisalmer

It has a story of its own. Around some 300 years ago, it used to be a prosperous village of Paliwal Brahmins. A village once populated overnight became a ghost town, those who left this place behind never to be head of or seen again. The ghosts of those who abandoned the place 300 years ago are said to still haunt the village.

2. Bhangarh Fort, Alwar

According to legend, a magician had put curse on this place and in ignorance of this curse Ajab Singh, the grandson of Madho Singh, raised the palace to such a height that the shadow reached the forbidden place which resulted in the devastation of entire town of Bhangarh. Local villagers say that whenever a house is built there its roof collapses. People have been cited saying that nobody had returned who stayed there after dark and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) sign board put up there has in display the following words- "Staying after sunset is strictly prohibited in this area."

 3. Brijraj Bhavan, Kota

A Heritage Hotel, Brijraj Bhavan once used to be the residence of Major Charles Burton who was killed during the mutiny of 1857 by Indian sepoys. It’s said that the major’s ghost still walks the halls here.

4. Kiradu Temples, Barmer

According to legend, this place has been cursed by a Sage and whoever stays in this temple or in this village after sunset turns into stone. The place was cursed by a sage after his disciples were left to die unattended by the villagers.

7. Jagatpura, Jaipur

It doesn’t attract tourists for its ‘haunted’ vibe as like some other places in Rajasthan. That’s because this unassuming place is a residential area. But the story that goes around is that at night, you get to see witches walking around the roads of Jagatpura. The descriptions match those of the witches one come across in classic Indian horror tales white dress, old, white hair hanging loose over the face…so, maybe it’s just made up story inspired by desi horror. All the same, it can be quite eerie to walk after night in these parts.

8. Mehandipur Balaji Temple, Dausa

It is believed to be the only religious place in India where live exorcism takes place. The first two chambers have idols of Lord Hanuman and Lord Bhairon, since the temple is dedicated to one of the most powerful Hindu deities Lord Hanuman, it is believed that his power can actually ward off any black magic force on Earth. The entire place is filled with loud screams of men and women, a must visit...

9. Chand Baori, Dausa

It is a great piece of architecture. Many baori have been built by Rajas and other Maharajas but amidst them stands a baori in Jodhpur which is supposed to be built by ghosts. If you ever visit Dausa do not miss the opportunity to have a look at this place.

10. Sudhabay, near Pushkar

It is not a ‘haunted place’ in the classical sense of the phrase. In fact, it’s where people come to get rid of their haunting. Sudhabay certainly counts, at-least on one day every year, the day of the ‘Ghost Fair’. For on this day, you can see people possessed by evil spirits coming here to take a bath at its well the water of which is supposed to be a holy weapon to drive away the evil spirits.
